I took No Impact Man's advice this morning, and signed up for this service to stop junk mail. We'll see how effective it is in saving the environment during the next few months.

I wondered where Michael got the idea to call all of the 800 numbers to get off of mailing lists. Probably from the no-impact man website. Every time we get a catalog, he calls them and requests to be off their list. I don't remember now the last time we got a catlog in the mail. It's amazing to me how much our junk mail has been reduced just by doing that. I hadn't considered calling the credit card companies that send offers and ask to be off their mailing lists. Not a bad idea.
