This picture was taken 310 kilometers above the surface of Mars by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. It shows the parachute of the Phoenix Mars Lander opening in the Martian atmosphere.
They say it is the first time a spacecraft has taken an image of another spacecraft's planetary decent. The landing occured on May 25, 2008 at 1938 EST.
