These robots are designed to store energy and jump similar to locus, grasshoppers, fleas and frogs.
On a related note, we got a breadboard electronics kit, and made our first project last night with Isaac. No pictures, but it was basically a power supply run by a 9 V battery. We tested by hooking up LEDs into the circuit, dertermining what color they were.
Our major electronic discovery was that LEDs need to be matched with a resistor in a circuit. The resistor acts like a dam to keep the extra electricity produced in the battery from burning out the LED.
