Great comic from Willey Miller's Non-Sequitur.
The height of your paper stack or the volume of your working hours doesn't define your value to the company. Let's measure value by creativity and innovation, not by the number of widgets generated.

Science Fair: Gyrocar
Perhaps the best science fair project ever, Gyrocar from Make Magazine. Maybe if Isaac will go ahead and build it, it will pass inspection. He can write it up when the fair comes around. Here's the PDF.

Thanks: Be Grateful
Found this quote in a new found blog (EveryDayIsAwesome - How's that for a title) from a story about "The Grateful Stone."
After a bit of conflict this week on the football team, I'm very grateful for the additional time I get to spend with my son while helping to coach his team. I'm also thankful for the lesson my wife taught me, that you don't always have to defend yourself. Sometimes walking away with a smile is good enough.
Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along the spiritual road.” -John Henry Jowett

Quotes: How Much Experience Do You Need
Interesting quote from Seth Godin regarding experience.
Nine years of experience is very different from one year of experience, nine times.

Another example of making your own art. A band called Atomic Tom plays on the NY Subway using only IPhone Apps. NY Times.
Parachute: Army Parachuting to a Football Game
Looks terrifying, and I'm amazed how much time there is.

For my amazing Lover
"When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause 'Lover' you're amazing
Just the way you are" - Bruno Mars

Lover you are so beautifully handsome.....and I will tell you everyday. Te amo.
Dance: Rain Dance
Hard to believe that these guys do not have classical training (note pointed toes and hand extension). However, still impressive modern impression.

Music: Tom Tom Club - Tiny Desk Concert
Hey, NPR made their video concerts embeddable. Great concert to begin with. This group originated in 1981 from the rhythm section from the Talking Heads.
Star Wars: Homemade PaperCraft Video and Song
Cool. Homemade song and video.
via Neatorama.
Here are words to the song.
Twin suns of Tatooine
Taught me everything I know
Twin suns of Tatooine
Taught me everything I know
There’s room up there for second chances
Singles are fine but doubles are fantastic
I’d like to think that there’s a star for me and you
Spinning round, falling for one another
Therapy: E-Legs
If I would have been involved with projects like this when working in physical therapy, I wouldn't be a software developer today.
Amazing stuff. The most impressive is the second guy with a T3 injury. The other two are very amazing looking, but a much lower injury.
This technology was initially designed for the military as an assisted weight bearing device.

Music: Justin Timberlake Re-Mix
In addition to some cool ukulele, I need to see if we can get some of those digital effects machines.
Update: The instrument is called a Stylophone Beatbox. Here's Brett Domino's site. Found them at Amazon.
Facebook: What Your Facebook Portrait Says About You
via Neatorama. While instructional, I always wonder about people who don't actually put a picture of themselves on the portrait. How am I supposed to remember you were the guy I played rugby with in college when your portrait is of your pet rock?
We want to see your face! Serious, silly, sensual. I don't care if your ugly, we're all pretty ugly, still want to see what you look like.

Star Wars: Elephants in Star Wars
Elephants were used as the Bantha creatures seen in Star Wars: The New Hope. Apparently, the elephant kept taking the hot costume off during shooting.
Elephants were also used as a reference when animating the Imperial walkers, and the sound of the tie fighter.

Strength: The Appearance Of Weakness Takes Strength
Good article from Seth Godin.
Demonstrating strength
Apologize
Defer to others
Avoid shortcuts
Tell the truth
Offer kindness
Seek alliances
Volunteer to take the short straw
Choose the long-term, sacrificing the short
Demonstrate respect to all, not just the obviously strong
Share credit and be public in your gratitude
Risking the appearance of weakness takes strength. And the market knows it.
