RE < C Computer Energy Consumption

Have you seen this expression, REnew energy initiative from Google, to use renewable resources to power their applications.

I've preached this to my group frequently, a processor costs more in energy costs than initial purchase costs. However, I had not considered the long term effect of large applications like Second Life. According to this article, a Second Life avatar consumes more energy than an average real Brazilian person.

While I've heard you can do a job interview over Second Life, I doubt they have virtual wind farms, like we have here in Texas.
